
Application Information
2002-2003 Academic Year
The project will support two or more three-to-nine-month fellowships each year beginning in the fall of 2002. We are looking for scholars, writers, and researchers interested in exploring ways in which Vietnamese identity and community as well as Vietnamese history, literature, and culture are being shaped and reshaped in the post-war, post refugee era. Those with interdisciplinary interests are especially invited to apply. Fellows will work with the unique resources of the university and Dorchester communities while in residence. They will receive financial support up to $35,000 as well as a small moving stipend.
For academic year 2002-2003, applicants can apply for an alternative residency option which requires only a short-term residency. Please refer to the Alternative Residency Program for further details.
Dates:
All applications are due on or before January 31, 2002.
Applicants have the option of sending in an initial 1-4 page letter of intent
summarizing their proposals for preliminary evaluation. These are to be received
on or before December 5, 2002. The letter of intent should state how research
relates to residency themes, proposed length of study, and current status
of applicant's research. Applicants will receive a response to their preliminary
summary by December 20, 2002.
Please note that applicants are not required to submit this letter.
The selection of Rockefeller fellows for Academic year 2002-2003 will be announced on or near March 15, 2002.
Themes:
Applicants are to refer to all three Theme
Groups, but should not feel completely constrained by them. Proposals
related to any one of the three Theme Groups will be considered. Innovative
approaches are encouraged.
As Rockefeller Programs are not intended to be supplementary
support for ongoing M.A. or Ph.D. candidates, Rockefeller proposals cannot
serve as part of the applicant's dissertation.
Applications
Application Requirements:
1. An essay of between 15 and 20 pages describing the intended research, the
methodology, the theoretical and conceptual framework, how the expected outcome
would lead to further contributions in the field.
2. Plan of study including specific dates of residency and resources required.
3. Curriculum Vitae.
4. Three recommendation letters.
5. The applications and the final product could be submitted in either English
or Vietnamese.
Terms of Fellowship:
Community/University presentations:
The residency program fellows will make three presentations to the community/university
during the residency outlining their research at the beginning, middle and
end of their fellowship terms. Fellows will make visits to student classes
and community gatherings to talk about their projects. Fellows will participate
in events organized by the Standing Committee.
Final Work Product:
Fellows will be expected to produce a publishable work which will make a contribution
to a better understanding of the issues the residency explores.
