
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Martín Espada
Martín Espada will teach a one-week
poetry workshop June 26-30 as part of the Joiner Center's 2006 Writers'
Workshop. The class will meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 until
11:30 a.m.
A poet and professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, he has
published numerous collections of poetry, most recently Alabanza. He lectured
on the state of Latino poetry and Pablo Neruda at the 2005 Writers' Workshop
and was filmed by a documentary crew from New York.
This special one-week poetry workshop will feature a close reading of poems by workshop participants, with an emphasis on poems dealing with issues of social justice. Participants should bring a new poem (ten copies) to the first class.
