The
18th Annual Writers' Workshop
June 20 - July 1, 2005
Sponsored by the William Joiner Center for
the Study of War and Social Consequences and the Creative Writing Program
of the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Since 1987 the center has sponsored a two-week workshop for writers interested
in working on writing projects related to war, conflict, or other significant
social issues. The workshop takes a fairly traditional form with core staff
of writers work intensively in workshop settings with a small group of writers.
The workshop classes (poetry, fiction, memoir, and translation) are supplemented
by individual conferences, master classes offered by visiting writers, panels,
film screenings and discussions, and readings by faculty and students.
Visiting writers will join the teaching staff in a series of readings, seminars,
and panel discussions. Special events held at UMass Boston and at other Boston
locations will be open to both workshop students and the general public. Click
