The Full Circle Project: PTSD

The idea of Jaime Rodriguez after a 1988 trip back to Vietnam, the Full Circle Project sought to return veterans to the scene of trauma and observe the results in terms of their psychological adjustment.

In 1989 the firsts of two trips returned combatants to Vietnam for 19 days, followed subsequently in 1990 for a total of 22 veterans who were questioned and observed by a team of psychologists interested in the effect of such re-visitation on veterans' emotional, behavioral and interpersonal functioning..

Erwin Parson, a psychologist specializing in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, issued a 60-page post-study report, The Full Circle Project: A Systematic Evaluation of the Return to Vietnam, concluding "it opened new avenues to personal growth and understanding."
George Wilson, a reporter and a tour participant, wrote a major article, "Vietnam Revisited," for the Washington Post Magazine. The study and the journalistic coverage resulted in a significant upsurge in the number of veterans returning to Vietnam.
