“(Re)Constructing Identity and Place in the Vietnamese Diaspora."
In 2000, the center, working in cooperation with the Institute for Asian American Studies, the Asian American Studies Program, and the East Asian Studies Program applied for and received support to host a Humanities Fellowship Program for scholars and researchers whose work focused on the theme of Post War Identity in the Vietnamese Diaspora.” Under this first residency program, scholars from across the U.S., and countries including France, Vietnam, Canada, Sweden, Russia, Germany,
And Australia received support and travelled to Boston for research and to make presentations. A unique aspect of this program was its recognition that as a consequence of the war many scholars and researchers had been displaced and, in fact, were no longer employed in “traditional” scholarly occupations or housed within the departments of universities. To meet these realities, the program was shaped to provide support for these scholars and researchers while they remained in their communities, bringing them together for shorter, intense exchanges in Boston each year.

2006-2007
In 2003, the Rockefeller Foundation granted the center a rare second round of support for another three-year cycle of fellows whose work would focus on. Again, the program was geared to support scholars, artists, and community activists in non-traditional as well as traditional settings.
